Live like a model

Some models can fake it but let’s be the real deal. Live the model life. Live with true confidence, enjoy in the beautiful moments and hope for a bright day and future. Every person can better themselves. No one is above learning something new, so keep an opened mind.

No matter where you are in the world, you are always with yourself. So love yourself. Get to know who you are. Love who you are.You can learn new and interesting aspects of your character each day. Laugh at yourself when you make mistakes, smile at yourself when you are going through hard times, don’t beat yourself up instead comfort yourself and allow yourself to be your own best friend.

Be interested in life and all of humanity. There is so much beauty to explore in humanity. If you are interested in the struggles of all men, it’s very hard to be cruel or self-centered. Being cruel and self-centered will limit your creative ability. If you know of your own struggles be compassionate to the struggles of others.

Surround yourself with beauty and creativity. You can start with your home. Decorate your interior walls and furniture to inspire your inner artist. Look through home designs and art catalogues. Get ideas from these type of publications to spiff up your living courtiers.

Get some plants. Flowers are great to grow. Not only are they beautiful, they can fill your house with sweet-smelling aroma. I was told that by inhaling the scent of a flower helps to stimulate brain activity to help you learn new tasks and ideas. Some of my favorite smelling flowers to grow are roses and gardenia.

Have your own fashion style. This comes from knowing yourself and what style fits you best. What type of clothes makes your body look the best it can and emphasises your best features while staying true to your personality? Always have some great essential, go to item in your closet. A great pair of heals, a pair of jeans that elongates the legs, a plain tank top, a fabulous dress, and the perfect sweater are the go to items I keep in my closet.

Reward yourself every time a goal is met. If your goal was to lose a couple of kilograms and you did, reward yourself with a little sweet treat you desire. If your goal was to take a model walking class and you singed up and finished the class, practice your new-found walk and attitude up to the nail salon and reward yourself with a manicure. It’s a healthy habit to reward yourself when you finish an accomplishment to keep you motivated. By rewarding yourself after the accomplishment you always have something to look forward to and you will be quicker to move on to your next goal.

The check list to go over; do you have a sense of yourself, treat yourself like your own best friend, have all the essential fashion items, decorated your home, smell flowers when you wake, find beauty everywhere you go, compassionate and kind to others always and reward yourself after every accomplishment in order to help you to persevere? If you answered yes, then you are living like a model; Fabulous.

Hope in the future

If you are already a model and your starting to feel this is no longer the career you want to do, it maybe hard to move into another career. You may not know what else you can do, or you may just feel stuck. You may even have a pride or ego that holds you back from moving forward into a new career. Again go back to making a list to help you move into the future.

Goals Worksheet

  • What do I love to do?

  • What are my hobbies?

  • What am I really good at?

  • What do I like to create?

  • How could I make money from my hobbies, what I love to do or what I’m really good at?

  • Is there any job I am really interested in learning more about?

  • What are my goals for the next year?

  • Who do I know who could help me in reaching my goals?

  • What are my steps to reach my year goal?

  • What have I accomplished toward my goal this month?

Creating Beauty

Beauty is everywhere. Beauty is in every moment of life. Beauty exists everywhere and is constantly being created. Creat it for yourself. Create what you love. Find it beautiful because you captured a moment that may never again exist. Then share that moment with others.

Models can be very self-centered; “but the artist must be interested in the world and people around him, not just his own reflections.” Dori Keller

An artists life can be a constant emotional roller coaster. Try to create consistency and support in other aspects of your life. Living a balanced life is essential for staying sane and focused.

If you don’t have support with your family, try to find support through friends and positive support groups. Find support groups with people who have similar goals. Make a list. Draw out your goals in the next 5 years and a step by step plan on how you will reach them. Every time you reach a new stepping stone toward your goal reward yourself.

The Journey

If you have a dream, you are not alone. Many have the same dream. What determines your dream from coming into fruition is your passion and perseverance. Never giving up no matter how many times you are turned down and away can be the determining factor to success. Go for what you love to do and are passionate about.

“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.” -Martin Buber

All journey’s starts with a first step. Know what type of model you want to be. Then know what type of model you are. There may be a difference. There are many types of Models. Know which category you fit into. Look through magazines, catalogues, high fashion, commercial, and compare. Do you look a similar type to these models and fit into the same genre? This knowledge of oneself means to have a sense of oneself.

Don’t be limited to the country you are from. As a model you may need to travel abroad. Do you see yourself in Paris on the run way in Chanel? Do you see yourself in Hong Kong on face cream advertisements? Look at all the media in the world and see what the market is like and where you belong. Knowing where you belong and fit in as a model is knowing the market.

Once you have figured out where you belong, go to the agencies where you feel best fits the type of modeling you want to be a part of. You can also submit photos to most agency online. Some agencies may want you to have professional photos but most just want to see a natural you and a Polaroid may do the job. If you don’t hear back, or you get rejected, take a look at yourself if there is anything you can work on, and then try again.Trying again and again, is perseverance.

I was scouted at 14 in New York on more than one occasion. My father was against me modeling and I never really had a desire to model. I wanted to be an artist but I hadn’t put much thought into modeling. I lacked passion and I lacked a sense of myself but I fit the market. I was scouted again in Tokyo for the same reason and this time I decided to give it a try in hopes I would get some money from it. To get money is a very wrong reason to start in the entertainment industry. It will never seem like enough, you will never be fulfilled and it’s not an easy way to get money either.

It took many rejections before I got my first job. It was fun and I had fun but I still lacked a sense of myself and I never took my modeling seriously. To have a successful career as a model you have to take it seriously. I would get more and more jobs in magazines, catalogs and advertisements but even then there is rejection to face daily. I have been told several times I’m too short, I’m too thin, I’m not thin enough, I’m not fit enough, they hate my freckles, they love my freckles, I don’t look Japanese enough, I don’t look caucasian enough, I’m too young, I’m too old, I could go on and on. I took all the comments personally. Big mistake. Don’t ever take anything anyone says personally. Just know that it has nothing to do with you. There are so many other factors for their remarks and it has nothing to do with you personally, it has to do with them.

I felt unsettled, always looking for more, and unhappy with life. I submitted my pictures to modeling agencies in the U.S. but I heard no reply. I decided to fly over to the U.S and I went to the agencies I had submitted my photos. I persevered and then they all wanted to sign me up.

To get an agency to believe in you takes a combination of having a sense of yourself, knowing the market, and perseverance. To have a career in modeling it takes being serious about modeling, passion, confidence and never giving up.
